Modular joint systems effectively seal the joint gap, while keeping runoff water from passing through the substructure.
The box seal system provides the ultimate in sealed modular joint design and reliability. The strip seal system uses an inner-locking single layer strip gland that is easy to install in the field. Modular joint systems are comprised of five important design features.
These features make the Modular system tough, long-lasting, watertight and virtually maintenance free.
Field proven under the toughest bridge conditions everywhere in the world, the Modular joint system is made to order in accordance with the highest fabrication standards and can be engineered to meet a variety of conditions and movement requirements.
This longevity comes in part from the basic design concept comprised of a steel multiple support bar system which combines the strength to support traffic loads with the flexibility to accommodate continual structural movement. Today, we are among the worldwide leaders in the manufacture of large movement modular expansion joints for challenging long span bridge structure applications.
Modular Joint, also known as lamella joint is capable of simultaneously allowing movement in the longitudinal, transverse and vertical directions while accommodating the structures service and seismic movements. It is designed to be functional after seismic excitation as well. The design of the modular consists of supporting edge and center beams along with support bars, which span the open joint. The system is equipped with a mechanical control system, which assures equal spacing of each center beam. Sealing elements are utilized to ensure the integrity of a watertight system.
Features:
In the MAURER Girder Grid Joint each grider is rigidly welded on the respective traverse beams. Therefore, shifts within the girder grid are possible. Control springs arranged between the traverses beams provide for even distances between the middle girders depending on the total width of the joint gap.
The MAURER Swivel Joists-Expansion Joint is suited particularly for large and complex motions, if little space is available or for usage in earthquake-endangered constructive systems. The middle girders are lead and mounted gliding on shared traverses. A swivel mechanism enables parallel control of the middle girders. Therefore, an unrestricted series connection of middle girders is possible, enabling motions of significantly more than two meters in any direction.
MAURER XL-Expansion Joints are the logical next step the well-known MAURER Modular Expansion Joint - with added noise reduction by means of rhombic elements. By raising the permitted maximum single gap width to 100 millimeters, the number of middle girders can be reduced and an optimal degree of noise protection can be achieved at minimum investment cost - keeping all the proven benefits of MAURER Modular Expansion Joints.
